Positive Self Image

Your self-image is the mental picture that you have of yourself. It is generally quite resistant to change. The formation of a healthy self-image can be challenging to some people, especially when family, close friends or society gives negative evaluations that are inaccurate. Poor self-judgement can often be the result of accumulated invalid criticism that someone collected as a child, which has led to damaging the view that person sees of him/herself.

Self-esteem is how you feel about your self-image. Self-image is how you see yourself and how you believe others see you. They are closely connected if you have a low opinion of yourself, your self-esteem will be quite low. How you see yourself is vital because it affects your behaviour, your thinking and how you treat others.

How you see yourself is quite often very different from how other people see you.
